Technical fixes coming to GardenRant by Garden Rant

You may have noticed GardenRant offline for a while this morning and yesterday, too. Turns out we’d been shut down by our server for having too many spam comments.

Yes, we use Akismet to prevent almost all of them from appearing on the site, but we’re told that 300+ spam comments are being caught by that app every day, and that’s too much, says Bluehost.

The upshot is that temporarily we’re having to approve all comments but the solution that’s been suggested is to install Captcha for all comments. While it slows commenting up a bit, it’s faster than waiting for the blogger to discover a comment waiting to be approved. Blog readers are pretty used to dealing with Captcha by now, anyway.

Full disclosure and all that.
